The History of the club

Courtaulds was formulated in 1794 became a prominent employer in Braintree
In 1923 Austistine Courtauld brought the grounds on which the current club stands and gave the club in trust for the factory workers of their Bocking plant. 1980s Courtauld moved its operations abroad they gave the Trusteeship to the local authority which helped run the club. 2008 when due to financial restraints they returned the Trusteeship to the members of the club. At this time the club applied to become a CASC in order to enable the club to continue. In 2016 AKZO Nobel Ltd the company that bought out Courtaulds gave ownership of the club grounds to the Trusteeship of the club.

The Community Amateur Sport Club

The Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC) scheme was introduced in 2002 by the government to support grass roots sport. It recognises the importance of sport in the community by allowing local amateur sports clubs to be deemed as a sports club rather than a business and register with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) as a sports club. The main criteria for registration are: The club must be open to the whole community the club's main purpose must be to provide facilities for eligible sports, and to encourage people to take part in them and the club must be organised on an amateur basis.
